Widowed Parent's Allowance (WPA)

Financial help can be a real life saver and the Widowed Parent's Allowance (WPA) is a financial benefit available to widowed parents in the UK. To be eligible parents must be under State Pension age, have a dependent child, and their spouse or civil partner must have paid National Insurance contributions. This allowance for widowed parents provides financial support for up to 52 weeks after the death of a spouse or civil partner, and the amount received will depend on the parent's circumstances. gov.uk/widowed-parents-allowance

Child Benefit

Child Benefit is available to all parents as it is a universal benefit in the UK. It is paid to the parent or guardian responsible for a child under the age of 16 (or under 20 if they are in full-time education or training). Widowed parents in the UK are entitled to the same Child Benefit as any other parent. gov.uk/child-benefit

Bereavement Support Payment

The Bereavement Support Payment is available to widowed parents who have dependent children and have lost their spouse or civil partner in the UK. The payment is made up of an initial lump sum payment plus ongoing monthly payments and the amount received will depend on the parent's circumstances. gov.uk/bereavement-support-payment

Support groups

Finding local support groups can be a valuable source of emotional support for widowed parents. Having a safe space for parents to share their experiences and connect with others can make you feel less alone when you’re at your lowest.
